When co-founders Hugh and Tarn’s daughter was admitted for emergency adenoid surgery, it set something in motion that would reach far beyond their family.
It started when Tarn noticed her 4 year old was unusually quiet in the car. Turning around, she quickly realised her daughter was gasping for air. Medical tests and doctors confirmed that high PM2.5 levels were to blame.
They went home and did everything right: sealing cracks around doors and windows, adding air purifiers into every room. Still, something was off.
“The air felt cleaner, but Isabel was drowsy, headachy, and still struggling. We’d gotten rid of PM2.5 but trapped ourselves in CO₂.”
But Isabel seemed okay at school.
Tarn discovered the school used something called a positive pressure system that pushed polluted air and CO₂ out of the classroom. The cleaner air supported student focus and created a better environment for learning.
When Tarn looked for a system for their home, she found options that helped, but nothing that created true positive pressure across the whole property.
If the technology already exists, why couldn’t it be more accessible?
As experienced founders, Hugh and Tarn quickly recognised they weren’t the only ones experiencing a problem with clean-air delivery.
So they began researching, building their own prototypes, measuring, and refining until they developed something that worked. With help and rigorous testing from R&D experts, they developed the BE‑TPP1100 TM – Breathe Easy, True Positive Pressure. The first machine went into their own ceiling.
Breathe Easy combines air filtration and positive pressure in a single unit, designed for homes and scalable for businesses. Inspired by the air standards of hospitals and cleanrooms, it lowers PM2.5 and CO₂ levels in everyday spaces.
Tarn and Hugh went on to create SmartFlow™, the software that monitors and adjusts airflow in real time, and SmartTouch™, the touchscreen monitor that makes air quality visible at a glance.
Breathe Easy was built in the space between industrial ventilation systems and consumer air purifiers.
It combines higher standards of air performance with a more intuitive everyday experience, because clean air should be visible, measurable and trusted.

What began as a family emergency grew into a larger mission: helping more people understand, access, and experience better air. Our accessible hardware and intelligent software is scalable for more homes and businesses, and the BEFF™ community is raising the standard for what people come to expect in their places of work and play.
